Waterperry Gardens ‘An Inspiring trip for mind, body and soul’ (member’s quote)

A treasure trove of horticultural delights greeted our coach party in June at Waterperry Gardens near Oxford.

The stunning landscape offers not only formal and ornamental borders, but also a meticulous museum, historic church, amazing amphitheatre and a very tasty tea shop! We were impressed by them all.

Our garden tour guide once
worked with Beatrix Havergal,
who founded the school of horticulture at Waterperry in
the 1930s.

She told us how they had to
polish the orange tree leaves
and make perfect snowdrop
posies to sell, even in freezing conditions.

We also toured the Queen Anne house, now
owned by the London School of Economic Science, which embraces many of the meditative
philosophies of the far east.

In 1998 a series of beautiful frescoes were
painted on internal walls to celebrate spiritual, subtle and physical life.
