On a hot June day 21 CREST members took the coach to picturesque Laverstoke Mill, a former paper mill that made paper for Bank Of England notes.

Huge copper stills (named Victoria, Henry, Thomas and Mary) distil every drop of Bombay Gin that is sold worldwide.

We smelt, felt and tasted the 8 botanicals (berries, barks, seeds, roots and peels) used to give the gin its unique flavour. Examples of all the botanicals are grown in the magnificent, prize-winning glasshouses, one of which has mediterranean, and the other has tropical, conditions.

We enjoyed cocktails especially tailored to our favourite flavours. After lunch, in the attractive setting next to the River Test, we visited the shop to purchase a bottle or two of the famous Bombay Gin.
