Join us on our visit to the Millennium Embroidery at Sunbury

We planned our Autumn outing with the weather in mind and chose somewhere we could shelter from the rain if necessary, but we needn't have worried - there were blue skies and warm sunshine for our visit to the Millennium Embroidery and Walled Garden in Sunbury.

We met in the cafe for coffee and delicious home-made cakes before meeting Doreen, our lovely guide, for a talk about the famous Millennium Embroidery. She knew so much about the making of the embroidery and really brought it to life. Did you know that over 140 local embroiderers were involved?

Do you know the stories behind the pictures? Why is there a snake on the river bank? Whose cat is in the window of Orchard House? Why is the newsagent wearing King George VI's trousers?

The are clay reliefs under the embroidery panels so that blind visitors can enjoy the embroidery too.

It was a beautiful day for a walk around the formal walled garden so we headed outside when we'd finished looking at the tent stitched emblems of Sunbury organisations and the art exhibition.
